Flipping and Frogging Big Bass In The Heat!

Its 106 Degrees today!!! Its HOT but the bass are biting if you know where to look! The frogging, flipping, and punching bite is going strong! Come along for a day on the water with Matt as he patterns bass on a hot Summer day and explains why he's making changes along the way.

A lot of anglers are afraid to fish in the Summer heat. If you're willing to get out there and know where to look it can be incredible shallow water fishing. Understanding shadows and bass behavior makes all the difference! Matt started off his day on Clearlake with a plan to frog and flip. He began with 3 rods on deck; a frog rod, a flipping stick with a 1 oz tungsten weight, and a flipping stick with a 3/4 oz jig.

The bass started biting on the first cast and Matt never pulled out another rod. As the day progressed he dialed in the pattern and fine tuned his color choices to get more bites. The combination of frogging the edges of cover and flipping deep in the thick patches is a 2-pronged approach that can be applied on any fishery that has heavy cover. Below is a breakdown of the gear Matt was using throughout the day.

How To Catch Bass In The Heat! (Its Easy)

Let's go catch Giant Summer bass together! Its not hard once you know where to look! Today we're going to show you exactly how the bass position on hot days and what you need to know to catch them. We're going to show you 6 different techniques you can use to run the hot weather pattern and catch bass anywhere in the country this Summer.

Many anglers are afraid to go out in the middle of the day in Summer. The heat gets so intense it can be really uncomfortable but the same scenario that keeps you away makes the bass bite like clockwork. Once you understand how to use shadows to your advantage, you can catch bass everywhere you go.

Matt shows us how you can take the shadow pattern and apply it to shallow bass with a frog, punch rig, and senko. Then he turns around the same day and shows how you it can be done with a jig, a worm, and a deep crankbait. It really is that easy! You have to get out and do some bass fishing before the dog days of Summer come to an end.

Below is a breakdown of the baits, including colors, that Matt used in the video. We've also linked all 6 rods he had rigged on deck.

3 New Frog Fishing Tricks To Catch More FIsh!

Come along for an evening of frog fishing and learn new tricks to put more frog fish in the boat! Matt and Tim spend most of the year with a frog rod in their hands and they've learned a ton of tricks along the way. Tonight Matt is giving up 3 tips that will completely change your frog fishing. Whether you've struggled to land your fish or maybe you'd just like to get some more bites, this video was made for you!

Matt's first tip to improve you frogging is to explore your opportunities in open water. If you frog heavy cover and slop, its time to branch out and fish away from the cover. The majority of our really big frog fish come in open water.

The second tip is to make sure you're using the right rod and the right frog. While that seems simple on the surface what Matt is actually recommending is that if you're struggling to hook or land frog fish, it might be time to look at a softer rod and a smaller frog with lighter wire hooks. By dropping down in power, you'll have time to build up speed in your hookset before connecting with the fish. This is especially important for smaller or younger anglers who don't have the power to smash hookset after hookset.

The final tip is to branch out and try new frogs. Fish become conditioned to frogs just like they become conditioned to other baits. By changing profile, action, or in some cases sound, you can catch a lot more fish. Below is a breakdown of the frogs we recommend trying, as well as the gear we'd use to fish those baits.

Summer Bass Fishing: Senko And Frog Fishing Tricks

Wacky rig vs. Texas rig; which Senko will the bass prefer tonight? Surprise! The wind kicked up and the senko fishing is tough. Matt turns to a new hollow frog he's never used before to quickly load the boat. Summer fishing is all about adapting to conditions and choosing the right bait for the job, come along as Matt makes the best of a Summer evening on Clear Lake.

Matt hit the water with a simple plan. He rigged three rods and planned for a fun evening of senko fishing. It took some adapting but his three baits all proved successful once he located a calmer area with fish holding along grass and shadow lines.
