This Is How We Catch Bigger Bass In Spring! (Shallow Water Tricks)

Come along for a day on the water and watch how we locate big bass in a giant reservoir! Matt runs the exact pattern that we teach for early season bass fishing and it plays out perfectly. First he catches a few fish, then he catches a whole school, then he catches a BIG one! Its the perfect script for early Spring bass fishing!

Matt is targeting early prespawn bass with a chatterbait, lipless, and squarebill. He's running secondary points in search of active fish and not wasting any time on unproductive water. When he locates a school he picks it apart then keeps moving in search of the bigger fish that are sure to follow. This is a pattern you can run on any lake around the country. We're heading shallow! Come along as we search the shallows for bass that are making early moves toward the prespawn. SPOILER ALERT: IT WORKS!!! You're about to witness a beat down as we catch bass after bass, up to 11 lbs!!! This time of year can produce giants if you're willing to pursue them!

So many anglers forget to adapt with the seasons. We're constantly pushing the envelope and searching for fish that are moving ahead of the norm. In this case, it involved moving shallow despite cool conditions. It payed off in a huge way! We started off catching big bass with squarebills and paddle tail swimbaits, then ended it with GIANT BASS on chatterbaits!

How To Catch Shallow Bass In The Fall!!

Shallow bass can be tough! You see them chasing baitfish in the backs of coves or splashing around grass edges but can you catch them? Sure you can! These are the tricks we use to catch shallow fish all through the Fall!

Bass have seen a lot of lures by Mid Fall. If they've been living in the shallows they've seen worms, topwater, crankbaits, and a variety of other lures on a daily basis. These fish are educated and wary but they still need to eat! We rely on downsized presentations with key sounds and colors to draw reaction strikes from these shallow water bass.

Crankbait Tricks For Late Summer!

The crankbait is becoming a major factor again as we begin the early Fall transition! The arrival of the first cool nights in Late Summer tells us that bass are on the move again and fast moving baits will be key. Crankbaits cover our boat decks during this time of year and you should be using them too!

While crankbaits work all Summer, they are at their peak in Late Summer as water temperatures begin dropping. We focus our efforts on Shallow square bills and medium deep divers during this period so we can cover water quickly and draw aggressive reaction strikes. The right bait for the job is dictated by the depth of water you're fishing and how aggressively the fish are reacting. For deeper baits, focus your attention on deep transitions near the edges of grass flats, channel bends, and humps. For shallow fish, focus on lanes in the grass and the first hard cover near grass flats.
