Top 5 Baits For Summer Ledge Fishing!

What is the deal with ledge fishing? You hear all the pros talk about it, you see big bass getting caught in videos, but what are they doing in the middle of the lake?! Are there ledges in your lake? And if there are, do you know how to fish them? Today we're showing you all our top ledge fishing baits so you can catch more offshore fish this Summer. 

Traditional "ledge fishing" takes place on the TVA chain of lakes all Summer long. The "ledges" are the sides of the river channel in the middle of the lake with current running past. Now, you may not live on the TVA (Chickamauga, Guntersville, Pickwick, Kentucky Lake, etc...) but if your lake has ANY summer time current or even if it has long tapering points or offshore creek channel bends with no current, your fish will behave in similar ways and "ledge fishing" baits will work for you.

Off Shore Bass Fishing! How To Catch Bigger Bass This Summer!

Come with us as we target offshore structure for early Summer bass! During the post spawn and early Summer, bass begin grouping on offshore structure. These fish are often overlooked and are frequently the biggest bass in the lake. Understanding how to find and target them will take your Summer bass fishing to the next level! 

In today's video we targeted fish in 10-30 feet of water. Depth and location in the lake were seemingly irrelevant, the key was finding hard structure on the bottom. It could be a log, a rock, or any other hard structure, as long as it was away from shore. When the spawn ends bass pull to these offshore havens to recuperate and to feed before the true heat of Summer sets in. 

As you saw in the video, these fish can be caught a variety of ways. They can be caught on finesse presentations, power fished, or even triggered into a reaction strike. Catching them can be fairly simple once you've located them. That said, we have very specific confidence baits that we really on year after year to put these fish in the boat as we explore lakes around the country.

Catching BIG Bass In TOUGH Conditions! 30 lbs For 5 Bass!!!

With a 40 degree temperature drop most anglers would just stay home. But we're clear down in Texas and a cold snap won't keep us down! Come along for a day on the water as we adapt to the changing weather and dial in a pattern for BIG Bass, no matter what the weather throws our way! 

Its simple to catch big bass when everything is in your favor. When the sun is shining, you've got a breeze on the water, and the fish are up shallow, it can be downright easy. But what do you do when it starts to fall apart? We're 19 hours from home on Lake Falcon in South Texas. The day time temperatures were hovering around 100 degrees and suddenly plunged to 60. To make things worse, the wind blew 40+ mph overnight. We have 1 day of experience on the lake, no idea how these fish adapt to these conditions, but that's not going to stop us!

With modern electronics and some tenacity, even brutal conditions are no match. The key in this scenario was to slow down. Two days prior we had been on a great bite with a wobble head and a 10" ribbon tail worm. We stuck to the same basic pattern, downsized a bit, and focused on key offshore structures (the largest rock piles we could find) and caught a ton of big fish on a day when most bass fishermen would have preferred to stay home.

Cold Water A-Rigs Tricks For Bass

Today we're adapting the A-Rig to catch deep cold water bass. Come along for a day on the water and see where these cold Winter fish are staging, how we target them, and what we do to the alabama rig to adapt to the colder conditions. Too many anglers focus on the shoreline during the cold months. Until we reach the prespawn, offshore fishing is an important part of Winter success. 

When probing deep water with an A-rig its important to adjust the sink rate of the rig. Changing from 1/8 ounce heads in shallow water to 3/16, 3/8, even 3/4 ounce heads will allow you to fish much, much deeper water with ease. You can take it a step further however if you're really paying attention. 

RETRIEVE SPEED is probably the single most important component to catching bass with A-rigs. With that in mind, you can fish an Alabama rig in 20 feet of water with 1/8 ounce heads as long as you go ultra slow. You can fish that same depth with 3/4 ounce heads and burn the bait along the bottom. Anglers understand the value of adjusting retrieve speed in shallow water but it is often overlooked in the depths. Pay attention to the speed you're getting bit at, adjust the swimbait heads on your rig to lighter or heavier models and you will be far more successful this Late Winter and early Pre Spawn.
