Chatterbait and Topwater! Exploring New Lake During ICAST!

Forget the show, we're going fishing!! ICAST is awesome but you've already seen enough coverage of the new baits and gear... its time to catch some bass! We're exploring the Orlando area and sticking a ton of fish on a chatterbait, frog, and whopper plopper! Come along as we break down a new fishery and adapt to changing conditions before a big thunderstorm rolls in. 

Florida isn't known for the greatest Summer fishing... but it should be! Sure its hot... really hot... but the bass don't seem to care. You can catch them offshore or right up on the bank, it just depends on your style. Today we started offshore and while we caught fish, they weren't the right size. We moved up shallow into backwater canals and shallow coves and immediately started getting quality bites.

Chatterbait VS Whopper Plopper! Summer Fishing Our Local Lake

Come along on a topwater mission as Tim and JD go in search of big Summer bass! Watch as they adapt to changing conditions, dodge storms, and catch some really nice fish. The goal for the day is topwater but they do what it takes to build a consistent pattern. They end up switching back and forth between 3 sizes of Whopper Plopper and a JackHammer Chatterbait to keep the pattern alive! 

Summer fishing is all about adapting to the conditions. When the weather is up and down so are the fish. If you add in changes in current, angling pressure, etc... it can be overwhelming. Sometimes it helps to just simplify your game plan. Today the guys knew exactly they wanted to throw and they searched until they found a way to make it work.

Top 3 Baits For Summer Bank Fishing!

Its HOT! No one wants to walk the bank catching NOTHING when its this hot! We've got a few tips that are going to make a huge difference for you this Summer! No matter where you fish, how big or small the lake, we've got a 3 bait approach that will help you get more bites so you're not stuck out there struggling to get a bite. 

When fishing from shore in Summer we use a very simple 3 bait approach. You need a bait to fish the surface, another to fish mid-column, and a third to fish along the bottom. Exactly which baits do you need? That's depends on how much grass you have in the lake. Tim has separated his recommendations (9 in total) depending on whether you have surface grass, mid-column grass, or no grass.

Summer Topwater! Big Fish Can't Resist In Shallow Water!

Summer topwater is amazing! Come along on this evening session as Tim gets bit cast after cast on top! He ends up with way over 20 lbs for 5 smallmouth and a TON of BIG bites! Watch as he switches from finesse baits to topwater, then dials in an exact pattern targeting big fish around hard bottom contours. 

No matter the species of bass you're targeting, topwater should have a place in your arsenal during the Summer months. Not only is it fun to throw and exciting to see as the bass erupt on the baits, it tends to get a larger bite than many subsurface alternatives. Tim and Tonya fished this lake briefly a few days prior and caught a few quality fish but the moment Tim picked up the topwater it seemed like every fish in the lake got BIGGER!
