Where Do Bass Go After They Spawn? (And How To Catch Them During The Spring To Summer Transition)

Did your big fish disappear? We can help! If the big bass vanished after they finished spawning you are not alone! Matt breaks fisheries down into 4 categories and explains exactly what is happening and what will happen next in all 4 fisheries. He then goes on to explain his favorite baits for each scenario and how to use them effectively. If you're ready to get ahead of the fish and continue catching bass into the Summer, this video is for you!

Fisheries around the country can be broken down into Highland Reservoirs, Lowland Reservoirs, Streams/Rivers (includes tidal fisheries), and Natural Lakes (includes ponds). All 4 of these water bodies behaves differently but all are predictable. The guys have spent decades following bass movements and are very comfortable predicting their patterns throughout the seasons.

Below you'll find a breakdown of the baits Matt discussed in the video. He'll begin with the actual bait he was showing in each category but may include an additional bait or two that will work great as an alternative. Underwater Sight Fishing - How To Catch More Fish!

Want to catch more fish? Come underwater and watch how these fish interact with our lures around their spawning beds! The fish are biting a jig, dropshot, texas rig, ned rig, and a variety of swimbaits! Whether you're a beginner or advanced angler, pay close attention to the details about how to avoid short strikes and false bites if you want to become a better angler overnight.

During the spawn, bass are less motivated to feed than other periods. If you haven't spent much time sight fishing start with this recent Sight Fishing Video to help you avoid common mistakes: https://youtu.be/3pJsNGdv9QM

Because bass are focused on spawning rather than feeding their habits change. They become more protective and aggressive but rarely fully engulf your lure. Knowing how to adapt color, size, and retrieve goes a long way to catching more fish. This is the time of year to catch a new personal best so pay close attention to the details in this video and apply them the next time you're at the lake.

Below is a breakdown of all the baits (in order of appearance) used in the video. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and lure descriptions.

Sight Fishing Mistakes You've Been Making - How To Catch More Bass!

LOVE IT or HATE IT, bed fishing is here to stay! This is always a controversial topic but sight fishing for spawning bass in Spring is legal in nearly every state so today we're going to teach you how to do it more effectively and with respect to the fish. Sight fishing is its own animal... you can be an excellent bass fisherman and a horrible sight fisherman. Its an art and if you learn to do it properly, the result is some of the best memories you'll ever have on the water. Come along as we catch a bunch of fish and cover some of the biggest mistakes that anglers make during the spawn.

If sight fishing isn't for you, there are plenty of ways to catch bass during the spawn that don't involve sight or bed fishing. But for anglers that are interested, this one is for you. Matt covers important topics like lure selection and color. How to blend in to the environment. How to choose the best sunglasses for fishing. How to position the boat so you don't scare the fish. How to find the sweet spot on the bed. And finally, how to do all of this while still respecting the fishery.

Below is a breakdown of the different baits, glasses, and equipment that Matt used in today's video. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see up close photos and descriptions of each item. The baits are linked in order of appearance to help you identify them.

How Fish React To Different Lures **Underwater Bite Footage**

Let's head under water and look at how fish react to a worm, a swimbait, and a jig. Tim presents all 3 baits to a variety of bass and watches their reactions. Its amazing how differently each fish reacts . Some lash out immediately, others ignore one bait entirely and then come to life for the next. Take a look and then share your take aways with us at the end.

The biggest "tell" about how a bass will react to a bait is its dorsal fin. If that fin starts standing up or moving rapidly you know you've got a fish that's fired up for a bait. If you make a change and the dorsal settles, its time for another switch. Its always best to have a variety of baits tied on and ready so you can adapt quickly to each fish's temperament.

Some of our key baits for sight fishing (and fishing in general) are a dropshot worm, jig, small swimbait, and large swimbait. Below is a breakdown of the specific baits Tim is using in the video. Comment below and let us know what you learned from watching how these bass react.
