Buyer's Guide: Creature Baits, Big Worms, and Craws

Do you have a favorite creature bait? Did it make the list? Today's video is about finding new creatures and worms for the upcoming year. With all the amazing options on the market today, Matt and Tim compiled their absolute favorite baits to share with you. If you want to try something different this year, look no further than this awesome list of creatures, worms, stick baits, and craws!

With 100's of brands making soft plastics and each brand offering at least a dozen different styles, how can you possibly know where to start? Each style of bait has a time and a place. We love the subtle baits in cold water, the aggressive flapping baits in warm water, and a compact profile in heavy cover. Its hard to beat a big worm dragged deep in Summer or a slow falling stick bait for shallow Spring bass. The good news is we've already done the hard work!

We've spent the last several decades trying 1000's of different baits from 100's of brands and we've found a handful of favorites that really stand out from the crowd. Today we're showing you the stand outs in no particular order. If you see something you might want to try, you'll find a link below that goes straight to that product on Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions. The baits are listed in the same order they appeared in the video to make it simple for you and we've included a handful of color recommendations for each one as well.

Underwater Footage!! Best Creature Baits Compared!

We're headed back underwater with 7 of the most popular creature baits in bass fishing! If you've ever wondered how your lure really looks under water, this series is for you! Not all creatures are created equal, see the differences for yourself. We've rigged all the baits on a texas-rigged 1/4 oz tungsten weight with a 4/0 Offset worm hook to get a true comparison. Let's head underwater!

Texas-rigged creature baits are one of the most consistent lures in bass fishing. Every angler knows that when the bass get around cover, they can't resist a creature bait! Whether you prefer a shorter, more compact profile or a longer, slender profile, we're testing a variety of baits that will apply to you. As you watch these baits in the water focus on the details of how each bait swims and moves at various speeds so you can select the bait that will best meet your needs.

In general, we lean towards natural colors first and dark colors second. Some of our favorites are simple colors like Green Pumpkin Black Flake, Black and Blue, Junebug, and Watermelon Red. Don't get caught up with all of the colors, instead focus on choosing a natural color and a dark color that you have confidence in, and stick to one or two creatures that you feel have the best action. Below is a breakdown of the different baits we've included in the video in order of appearance.

Texas Rigging Tips, Tricks, and Gear - Full Seminar

Learn the basics or try our advanced methods to get better hookup ratio, a better presentation, and fine tune your patterns, its all in this jam-packed video. The Texas Rig is the most universal rig in bass fishing so of course there are tricks to make it more effective! Whether you're fishing a drop shot, punching heavy cover, or somewhere in the middle, these tips will help you catch more bass.

Matt uses a very simplified method of Texas rigging. He goes out of his way to stick with a wide gap hook for nearly all applications, only venturing between standard wire and superline (2x strong) wire. This allows his presentations to remain very consistent and saves a lot of baits.

Tim prefers a more adaptive method, favoring different hook styles for different baits and presentations. The advantages are an increased hookup ratio and more fine-tuned method. Both bass fishing styles have merit so be sure to listen closely and decide which method will benefit you the most.
