Catching Big Bass On Little Baits

Matt and his Dad hit the water for some fun fishing but ended up locating a school of big bass! Come along for the ride as they catch quality spotted bass and largemouth on finesse tackle.

The key to success this day was locating aggressive schooling bass, then keeping them biting by cycling through a variety of baits and cast angles to continue to trigger their feeding mentality.

When targeting agressive prespawn fish its important to fish quickly and aggressively while the fish are actively feeding. All feeding periods come to an end so catch as many fish as possible during the bite window. Once the fish "cool off" give them a break for a few minutes then try to reactivate the school once more before moving on in search of a new school.

Catching Schooling Bass With Tim Little

Tim Smashes the schooling fish on Clearlake and gives some great tips on the top baits to throw around shallow bait balls. Watch these bass jumping out of the water to catch the shad!

Schooling bass become incredibly aggressive and at times, it seems will eat just about anything. But even when they're blowing up on topwater and chasing shad onto the shore, there are a few key baits that will consistently catch the better fish. Below is a breakdown of the baits Tim recommends throwing around schooling bass in shallow water.

When the bass begin targeting shad or other bait fish in shallow water, its prime time to catch a big bass! Get ready to experience one of the best patterns you've ever seen by implementing the techniques Tim discusses in this video.

Fishing With Underspins On Clearlake

Matt takes you out for a day on Clearlake throwing an underspin. With water levels receeding the fishing is more difficult than normal so Matt abandons his typical power techniques in favor of a small underspin.

Bass fishing with an underspin is a great way to catch bass when conditions get tough. If you were on a spinnerbait or crankbait bite and the conditions get tougher consider switching to an underspin and you might just reactivate your fish.

The key is the combination of swimbait and flashing blade. The blade causes the lure to stand out from the shad or other baitfish so the bass are more likely to eat it. If you haven't fallen in love with the underspin, its time to give it a try!

How To Catch Bigger Schooling Fish

Matt explains how schooling bass move and react. How the largest bass stay deep and play off the feeding mentality of the smaller fish to eat with minimal effort. He also explains how adapting your bait selection can help you to catch the largest fish in the school.

The next time you're on a topwater bite and the bass are really blowing up well, consider changing your offering and going deeper to get the bigger bites. Often times the truly giant bass will hang below bass that are feeding on the surface in our to take advantage of their efforts and eat the scraps with minimal effort.
